Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026 · Applies to Contact (com.hash.contacts)
Contact (“the app”, “we”) is a contacts and dialer app for Android. It shows your phone book, lets you call and message the people in it, and shows a summary screen when a call ends. This policy explains exactly what the app reads, what stays on your device, and what — if anything — leaves it.
The short version: the app has no accounts, no servers of ours and no cloud sync. It does not read your call history at all. Your contacts are read on your device to draw the screens you are looking at, and are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. The only data that leaves your device is what Google AdMob collects in order to show ads.
Information the app reads on your device
- Contacts. Read from Android's contacts provider to show your list, favourites, search results and contact details. Written only when you add, edit, star or delete a contact yourself, or set a ringtone. Contact data is used for display on your device and is never uploaded.
- The number of a call that is ringing. If you choose to make Contact your Caller ID & spam app, Android passes the app the number of an incoming call so the after-call screen can name the caller. The app does not read your call history — it holds no call-log permission at all — and it never blocks, rejects or silences a call: every call rings and is recorded by your phone exactly as it would be without the app. The number is used to draw one screen and is not stored or transmitted. This is optional; without it the after-call screen simply shows no name for incoming calls.
- Phone state. Used to notice that a call has started and ended so the after-call screen can appear. The app does not listen to calls and cannot record them.
- Your settings. Theme, language, the after-call and personalised-ads switches, and any reminders you create are stored locally in the app's own private storage. They never leave the device through us and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
What the app does not do
- It does not read your call history, and does not upload, sell, rent or share your contacts.
- It does not record calls or read the content of your messages.
- It does not ask for your location, your photos, your files, your microphone or your camera.
- It has no account, no login and no server of ours to sync to.
- It contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK, so we receive no usage reports from it.
Permissions and why each one is needed
- Contacts (read and write) — to show your phone book and to save the changes you make.
- Phone (make and manage calls) — to place a call when you tap Call, and to know when a call ends so the after-call screen can appear.
- Caller ID & spam app — optional. Only while you have chosen this app for that role does Android hand it the number of a ringing call, which is what lets the after-call screen name the caller. It is never used to block, reject or filter a call.
- Notifications — for the after-call notification and for the reminders you set yourself.
- Alarms and reminders — so a reminder you create fires at the minute you chose rather than inside a delayed batch.
- Appear on top — optional. Android refuses to let an app open a screen from the background, which is exactly the state the app is in when a call ends. With this permission the after-call screen can open by itself; without it you simply get a notification instead. It is never used to display anything over other apps at any other time.
- Internet and network state — used only to request ads.
Every one of these is granted by you in Android's own dialogs and can be revoked at any time in Settings → Apps → Contact → Permissions. The app keeps working without them, with the corresponding feature switched off.
Advertising
The app is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may collect device information such as the Android Advertising ID, IP address, coarse location derived from that IP address, device model, and ad interaction data (views and clicks). This collection is governed by Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Ads are the only mechanism by which any data leaves your device. AdMob never receives your contacts, your numbers or your call history, and none of that data is used to target ads.
You can turn off Personalised ads in the app under Settings → Privacy Settings. With it off, every ad request the app makes is marked as non-personalised. You will still see ads, they are simply less relevant. You can also reset your advertising identifier, or opt out of ad personalisation entirely, in your Android settings under Settings → Google → Ads.
Children
The app is a general-purpose phone utility, is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices
- Revoke any permission, or the Caller ID & spam role, in Android Settings; the related feature simply stops.
- Turn off the after-call screen, or personalised ads, in Settings → Privacy Settings.
- Reset or limit your advertising identifier in Android settings.
- Uninstall the app to delete every setting and reminder it stored.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page and the date above will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
